CORPUS CHRISTI WAUKESHA: Living the EUCHARIST

A MESSAGE FROM FR MATTHEW WIDDER:

October 26, 2025

If you follow our parish communications, over the course of the last few months you've heard or read about a new program that's beginning in our parish called SPRED. SPRED is a program that has the goal of helping children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities grow in their faith. A special focus of the SPRED program is to help ensure that our friends with different disabilities are not left out when it comes to preparing for the sacraments.

I'm grateful to Deb Reuland for bringing this program to our community in Waukesha. Many of you know Deb from her leadership of the Stop Human Trafficking Ministry, as well as being the chairperson of the human concerns commission of Corpus Christi Parish. Deb has first-hand experience of the SPRED program as she's served as a catechist for many years in the SPRED program that's hosted at St. Peter and Paul on the East side of Milwaukee.

As we look forward to launching the SPRED program at Corpus Christi Parish we're in the process right now of forming a team of catechists. The SPRED program meets in a group, but the primary catechesis is done one on one with a catechist. This means that for each person in the group there needs to be a catechist that's assigned directly to them. Since it's common for participants in the group to have difficulty reading, catechesis is done primarily by using experiential means. The SPRED group meets 12 times a year and the catechists meet as a group a week before each of the meetings to prepare the upcoming lesson.

If you have an interest in being a catechist or know someone who would benefit from being a part of the SPRED program, please contact Deb Reuland at 262-352-0285 or email her at spred@ccwauk.org.

God Bless You, Fr. Matthew Widder

CONGRATULATIONS Father Tim kitzke!

Father Tim Kitzke, SPRED President, has been selected to receive The Alumnus Lifetime Service Award from the Theological College at The Catholic University of America. He will be presented with the award on October 8, 2025 in Washington, DC at the college’s Alumni Day Mass and Award Dinner.

The Alumnus Lifetime Service Award was instituted almost 35 years ago to honor those alumni of Theological College who have served with distinction and humility throughout their priestly ministry according to the Sulpician ideal "to live supremely for God in Christ Jesus" (Father Jean Jacques Olier, Founder of the Society of St. Sulpice). Award recipients have included Bishops Michael Olson and Robert Barron, Archbishop Mitchell Rozanski, Cardinal Daniel Dinardo, and internationally recognized philosophers Monsignor John Wippel and Monsignor Robert Sokolowski.

Father Tim is being recognized for a lifetime of outstanding priestly service as a Church leader, mentor, and champion of the poor and vulnerable.

While still in undergrad years, Father Tim was accepted into the Basselin Scholars Program, an exclusive three-year honors program in philosophy consisting of the junior and senior years of undergraduate study and one year of graduate work, leading to the Ph.B. and Ph.L. degrees, respectively. It is for seminarians who have a vocation to the priesthood, and the ability to keep up with the high-level academic demands, the formation requirements of seminary life, and the pastoral ministry responsibilities of students in formation at that level.

Congratulations Father Tim!

catechist enrichment at the canticle garden

We had the privilege of having a catechist enrichment session at the The Canticle Garden in Waukesha.

It is a pilgrim site - a sacred place to gather for all to gather in devotion, the spirt of 'Laudato Si’ and environmental justice. It was designed intentionally for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Read about this exciting development in the Catholic Herald at https://catholicherald.org/local/canticle-garden-imparts-message-of-laudato-si/ or learn more about the garden and its mission at their website https://www.canticlegarden.com/

SPRED Milwaukee is thrilled to announce the wedding of Friend, Savanna, and her new husband, Henry. The ceremony took place on July 27th at Christ King Parish in Wauwatosa and was presided over by Fr. Dennis Saran, who in his previous life was Savanna's pediatrician! Savanna started SPRED at CK in the 6-10 age group and is now at OLDP in the adult group. All of us involved with SPRED Milwaukee offer our congratulations and God's blessings on their new life as husband and wife!

We are proud to announce that SPRED Partners, Inc. / SPRED has been approved by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee to  be listed in the Official Catholic Directory in 2023! The Official Catholic Directory is the official source for verifying the tax-exempt status of Catholic institutions under the IRS/United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Group Ruling.
